Public-health technology must move quickly enough to meet urgent needs and deliberately enough to protect the people, agencies and systems depending on it. Across our U.S. programs, COO Varun Arora keeps speed and rigor in the same operating loop.

“Move fast” is useful advice until the system carries a crisis call, a clinical conversation or protected health information.

Then speed acquires consequences.

A rushed integration can lose context during a handoff. A poorly governed model can generate a convincing but unsafe answer. A security shortcut can expose sensitive data. An implementation delayed by endless internal review can create a different harm: people continue navigating fragmented services while the better pathway remains unfinished.

Public-sector health technology lives inside this tension.

At RingMD, our operating challenge is to preserve the urgency of a focused technology company while meeting the obligations of government infrastructure. As Chief Operating Officer and a Project Director across U.S. initiatives, Varun Arora works at that hinge—between agency commitments and engineering execution, between rapid response and durable trust.

The Mission Sets the Pace

Startups often celebrate speed as a cultural identity. Public agencies experience urgency differently.

The urgency belongs to a person waiting for crisis support, a rural patient separated from a clinician, a caregiver facing an escalating situation or a responder working with incomplete information. The mission—not the desire to ship—determines which delay matters.

For us, moving quickly starts with choosing the right problem and setting the right standard for safety.

Speed is not the number of releases in a month. It is the time required to move from a recognized need to a safe, usable capability. A fast team can still waste time building the wrong workflow. A deliberate team can move quickly if it resolves the right decisions early.

As COO, Varun keeps the government outcome visible across commercial, program and technical discussions. He clarifies what must be true by launch, surfaces dependencies early, brings agency-owned decisions forward and directs our team toward configuration where it fits and new work where the mission requires it.

That discipline is how Varun helps us earn public trust: through clear decisions, dependable delivery and candid progress reporting.

IHS showed that usability and authorization are parallel work

Our Indian Health Service program shows why security and product development must advance together.

IHS awarded RingMD a clinical video telehealth contract in 2021. The agency’s 2022 launch announcement described a secure cloud platform supporting patient-to-provider and provider-to-provider care, including use across devices and in low-broadband settings.

At the time, IHS served approximately 2.7 million American Indian and Alaska Native people across 574 federally recognized Tribes. That national scale made usability across varied facilities and conditions a central delivery requirement for RingMD.

From the 2022 launch onward, implementation, training, support and security advanced as connected workstreams. That operating discipline continued through the IHS agency Authorization to Operate issued in 2025. RingMD Telemedicine is FedRAMP Certified Class C (Moderate) under Rev. 5.

Keeping those workstreams connected allows security documentation, identity design, change control and user experience to evolve together throughout live operation.

Ohio shows why listening can be the fastest path

Nineteen local 988 centers cannot be unified responsibly through assumptions.

We are developing Ohio’s state-centralized crisis platform through discovery with contact centers, behavioral-health authorities and mobile crisis partners. That work maps voice, text, chat, routing, warm transfers, referrals, documentation and statewide reporting while preserving local relationships.

Discovery accelerates delivery by resolving ambiguity before it becomes code.

An hour spent defining what “warm transfer” means across participants can prevent weeks of rework. An early decision about authoritative location data can stabilize routing, reporting and integrations simultaneously. A frontline specialist’s explanation of an exception can reveal a requirement that no solicitation paragraph could fully describe.

Startup speed in this context means shortening the distance between observation and decision. Government trust means recording the decision, assigning authority and testing the result.

The Ohio platform is under active development. We are turning stakeholder knowledge into traceable, testable platform logic and building it alongside the people who will use it. Live operation will add statewide performance data to that strong implementation foundation.

Alaska shows that adoption has its own clock

Technology can be deployed faster than a community can learn to trust it.

Alaska’s IDD and ISW telehealth service gives eligible individuals access to licensed clinicians 24/7/365 for crisis support, assessment and follow-up. We established the platform, clinical access, onboarding, reporting and outreach workflows.

The software could be made ready on a project schedule. Adoption required repeated explanation of who could use the service, when it was appropriate and how it complemented existing supports.

Early outreach created visibility. Direct engagement with care coordinators and provider organizations helped convert awareness into registrations. Some individuals began using the service repeatedly, including during predictable gaps in routine. Caregivers used it for practical and emotional support.

Those early contacts have reinforced the importance of pairing implementation speed with the steady relationship-building adoption requires. We will continue evaluating how engagement relates to higher-intensity service use as the evidence grows.

We move quickly by learning from the first contacts, refining the pathway and investing in the relationships that help people use the service sooner.

Crimson Viper made performance observable

Field exercises remove the comfort of a controlled demonstration.

During the 2022 U.S.–Thailand Crimson Viper humanitarian-assistance and disaster-response exercise, Varun briefed telemedicine capabilities at a Royal Thai Military Academy hospital, participated in a live Distinguished Visitors Day demonstration, supported interoperability work with U.S. and Thai technologies and contributed to a science-and-technology working group.

The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command Science and Technology Advisor recognized Varun as instrumental to the exercise’s success.

Varun made the demonstration useful by doing more than presenting the product: he worked with U.S. and Thai partners, contributed to the technical dialogue and helped identify priorities for future information exchange.

At Crimson Viper, Varun and our partners had limited time to build shared understanding, work across unfamiliar systems and demonstrate the mission in real conditions. He earned trust through performance that U.S. and Thai participants could observe together.

Preparedness Begins Before Activation

Government customers need partners that are ready before the urgent request arrives.

HHS’s Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response selected RingMD as a contract holder on its Telemedicine Disaster Services multiple-award IDIQ. The vehicle creates a pre-competed pathway through which RingMD may compete for future task orders addressing defined federal needs.

RingMD brings to that vehicle a readiness model built around low-bandwidth and asynchronous care, connected devices, interoperability, equipment and connectivity options, training, support and continuity.

For Varun and our team, selection means keeping the offering prepared for the moment a defined federal need emerges.

We continue strengthening the technology, workflows, equipment, training and support needed to respond with confidence.

Governed AI is urgency with a boundary

AI creates pressure to move faster because the technology changes quickly and the productivity gains are visible.

In Ohio, we are applying AI to bounded public-health tasks.

RecoveryRachel helps people navigate mental-health and addiction services through voice or text. It does not diagnose. Ohio’s 988 smart-documentation capability is designed to turn a consented interaction into a structured draft that the crisis specialist reviews and approves before finalization.

In both cases, automation handles defined supporting work while people retain the consequential decision.

Those clear boundaries make each capability easier for us and our government partners to evaluate, audit and improve safely.

Varun leads this work with a clear operating discipline: define the task AI can support, keep an accountable professional in control and establish a dependable response when an output is uncertain or wrong.

Urgency works best when ownership, decisions and escalation paths are already clear.

RingMD’s ASPR IDIQ position reinforces our readiness to compete for future disaster-telemedicine needs.
