Family medicine doctors are primary care providers, also known as the gatekeepers to the healthcare system, who manage the complete health care needs of individuals and their families.  This primary care doctor delivers the broad spectrum of acute and chronic healthcare services to people of all ages often coordinating care provided by other specialists. Besides evaluating and treating illness, they also provide preventive care, including routine evaluation, vaccinations, risk assessments and screening laboratory and imaging tests, and general counseling on overall mental and physical health, and cultivating a healthy lifestyle. The family physician receives a broad range of training that includes exposure to all the major specialties including surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetric/gynecology and more.
