Orthopedic Surgery - Knee

Orthopedic Surgeons may develop a special interest in procedures involving the treatment of knee-related orthopedic conditions. Some of the common conditions treated by knee surgeons are:

  • ACL injuries - the anterior cruciate ligament is one of the ligaments in the knees that is commonly injured. This can sometimes be torn and lead to pain and instability of the knees. It may be associated with meniscal (cartilage) tears. This can be treated by open or laparoscopic surgery.
  • Knee osteoarthritis - osteoarthritis of the knees is common in the elderly and in overweight individuals. In knee osteoarthritis, the cartilage of the knees, which serves as cushion to the joint, is worn out leading to pain in the knee joint as the bones glide on each other during movement. Knee osteoarthritis can be managed conservatively with medications or surgically via knee replacement surgery.
