Otolaryngology (ENT)

Otolaryngology is a specific surgical specialty (children - a Pediatric Otolaryngologist), with the medical doctor acquiring additional qualifications enabling specialization in the medical and surgical management of conditions, diseases including cancer, deformities, and injuries of the ears, nose, sinuses, throat, face, jaws, and related structures of the head and neck. Disorders of hearing and voice are also fundamental areas of expertise in this specialty. Pediatric Otolaryngologists have special expertise in the management of infants and children with congenital conditions and in the diagnosis and management of childhood disorders of voice, speech, language, and hearing. ENT surgeons may also have additional specialization in Plastic surgery acquiring additional expertise with reconstructive and cosmetic procedures such as head and neck oncology excision and reconstruction, and management of maxillofacial trauma.
