Vascular Surgery

A Vascular surgeon is a specific surgical specialty with the medical doctor acquiring additional qualifications enabling specialization in the operative and perioperative care diseases of the blood vessels (vascular disease) excluding vessels of the brain and the heart. These specialists have significant expertise in endovascular techniques as well vascular reconstruction. Common interventions performed by vascular surgeons include repair of traumatic blood vessel injury, revascularization or the relieving of blocked or occluded arteries, repair of varicose or insufficient veins to improve circulation, and treatment of aortic and abdominal aneurysms (bulges) to avoid life-threatening rupture.
